Training and Continuing Education

To advance the goals of ASAP and promote access for psychologists to ongoing education in psychopharmacology, one of the benefits of membership in ASAP is free continuing education. Watch here for continuing education resources, including free CE through your ASAP membership.

2006 Mid Winter Conference – San Diego, California

Continuing Education DVD Series

The 2006 Division 55 midwinter conference consisted of two educational tracks, one devoted to an update in pharmacotherapy, and another for individuals preparing for the Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP). Now the Division is pleased to provide you the opportunity to participate in these educational experiences at home. We are offering the complete set of presentations from each track on DVD, including all handouts and materials provided by the presenters.

Updates in Pharmacotherapy Program is a 14-hour set of DVDs with presentations offered by Daniel Egli, Randall Tackett, and John Caccavale. The 14 hours are actually seven two-hour symposia/workshops offered by the above faculty.  You may order individual sessions, or the entire program at a discounted rate. Included in the HOME STUDY course are the DVD, handouts from the faculty, and an exam for each presentation you order that must be completed and submitted to the Division in order to obtain CE certificates.  Psychologists will receive one 2 CE credit certificate for each exam submitted and passed (70% correct).  This allows you to decide how many hours of CE to receive.

PEP Review Course is a 16-hour set of DVDs with presentations offered by Matthew Nessetti, Randall Tackett, and John Bolter. Included in this HOME STUDY course are the DVDs, handouts from the faculty, and an exam (90 questions) that must be submitted to the Division and passed (70% correct) in order to obtain the 16-hour CE certificate.

To access the order form for either of these programs, select the following link: CE DVD ORDER FORM.

The Comparison of Programs Chart has been created to help you in deciding which training program in psychopharmacology may best meet your needs. It allows a direct comparison between programs on important variables such as length, outcome, and cost. We hope this information is useful to you as you begin your investigations into psychopharm training.

The Chart is available for download by selecting the following link for .xls (spreadsheet) format or this link for pdf format.

Division 55 and The Psychopharmacology Institute (TPI) are pleased to co-sponsor an introductory course in psychopharmacology and prescription privileges for psychologists. TPI has designed a course specifically for Division 55 members to introduce them to psychopharmacology training and encourage them to continue with advanced training. TPI is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.

This introductory continuing education program is offered at no cost to Division 55 members for the first 3 CEUs, and at a cost of $45 for the following 3 CEUs. To take advantage of this superb continuing education opportunity, you must be a member of Division 55. Annual dues are $30 per year for APA Members/Affiliates, $10 per year for Student or International Affiliates. You may apply for membership in ASAP by following this link to the Div 55 Membership Application.

We hope you consider joining Division 55 not only to take advantage of this remarkable continuing education opportunity, but also to join colleagues interested in advancing prescription privileges for appropriately trained psychologists.

Div 55 members who have received the sign-in information may access the introductory course by selecting the "Student Lobby" at Introduction to Psychopharmacology.

Select Verify membership and receive sign-in information to receive the registration information and sign-in password. Anyone completing these introductory courses will earn a total of 6 CE units, which TPI has agreed to accept as part of its full RxP training program. • Dr. Jim Meredith writes: "Every February there is an excellent one week psychopharmacology conference (titled "Annual Psychopharmacology Review") conducted by the University of Arizona in Tucson, directed by Alan Gelenberg. I've attended several times. It has always been very informative and well run with excellent resource material."
